Brigham Tea is an amazing herb that has been used for eons of time by the indigenous people of the southwest United States, namely the Paiute tribe.  It is a green, “twiggy” plant that has long, green, “needle like” twigs and makes an amber-red, flavorful tea.  It was used by the early Mormon settlers in Utah as a blood tonic and daily drink.

What is Brigham Tea / Mormon Tea?

Also known as: Miner's Tea, Squaw Tea, Teamsters Tea, Popotillo, Joint Fir, etc.

We were introduced to Brigham Tea about 7 years ago by a master herbalist who took us on an herb walk in the mountains of Utah.  We had no idea that this scrubby plant had such an amazing history and could be brewed into such a flavorful, wonderful tea.  In our home it has replaced all allergy medicine and asthma medications. It has become a part of our daily life and we would hate to ever be without it. After our herb-walk it was suggested to us by our Master Herbalist friend that we make Brigham Tea available to the general public being that this particular variety is the most desirable and most sought after.  And so we did, and the response has been amazing.  We now provide Brigham Tea to several large herb companies, and to hundreds of customers across the country.

Many people have used it for a variety of illnesses and ailments such as: colds, influenza, asthma, allergies, hay fever, respiratory infections, COPD/Emphysema, COVID-19, anemia, arthritis, bursitis, cancer, rheumatism, painful muscles & joints, stomach, bladder, urinary & kidney issues, and de-tox.

In researching Brigham Tea on the internet, here is some commentary, not researched by us, and not in any particular order:

Brigham tea is an exceptional tonic. It tones up many parts of the body. It is said to be a decongestant and bronchial dilator. It has a reputation of being a good support for arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis, painful muscles and joints, relieving toxic conditions, purifying the blood, an aid to kidney and bladder problems, a big help for allergies.

Brigham tea, is also known as miner's tea, squaw tea, teamster's tea, Mormon tea, joint fir and others. Brigham Young had a very good knowledge of herbs and advised many remedies for the sick. He recommended this herb to almost anyone, to be used as a tonic to heal and tune up the body. The Chinese have used this herb for thousands of years. It also stimulates the adrenals, which would be helpful for anyone under stress.

BRIGHAM TEA

“Ephedra Nevadensis” is a highly desirable, yet fairly difficult to find herb because it only grows in certain parts of the S.W. United States, typically on rocky ledges. It is not in commercial cultivation or suitable for home gardening as it is a very slow-growing native plant. The plant can only tolerate a very limited annual harvest being that re-growth can take years in dry desert conditions." "Brigham Tea is also considered an excellent demulcent for colds, and is used to balance the pH of the body. High in copper and iron, Brigham Tea is good for anemia.

"...Historically, Brigham Tea Extract (Tincture) has been used as an herbal supplement for numerous delicate health issues and urinary tract and/or kidney ailments. The natural impact of the tea reduces mucous membrane secretions which is a get advantages for delicate diseases that can result in an increased level of secretion." "The whole plant is used to treat asthma, hayfever, and other allergies and should be used during all stages of a cold or influenza, for arthritis, and for fluid retention. It has also been hailed for its appetite suppression and mental alertness.

"It is a "pick-me-up" in the long dark days on winter, it also is a natural pain-reliever, detox, blood tonic, and astringent. Countless are the testimonials for a variety of health issues, spanning centuries." Most herbalist and botanist call this herb by its botanical name, Ephedra. However, the Chinese specie of this herb contains much more of the alkaloid, ephedra. The Chinese have used this herb for thousands of years. It also stimulates the adrenals.

"Be careful not to confuse Mormon tea (Ephedra Nevadensis) with ephedra (Ephedra sinica and other ephedra species). Unlike these other plants, Mormon tea does NOT contain ephedrine, an unsafe stimulant."

"As a medicine, people take Mormon tea for sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis and gonorrhea. It is also used for colds, influenza, kidney disorders, and as a “spring” tonic."

"Brigham tea is a mild and pleasant tasting tea, and as a great bonus, you can re-use the twigs 3-4 times for additional batches of tea!"

We carry the Nevadensis variety, which contains no ephedra. We hope that you’ll give Brigham Tea a try and let us know how you like it. Here are some testimonials we have received from some of our customers. Again, none of these are meant to be considered as “medical advice"

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS:

“I received the Brigham Tea today. I started with the NEW YEAR with the flu, of some sort, some fever, and then sinus issues and lung issues. And, then there's the Texas winds lately throwing around dust and other things that affect the sinuses. And, for the past two days, I've been dealing with my heart seeming to be out of balance and off-beat. I've had heart tests to the max, and they've all come out good, but every now and then my heart still acts up with arrhythmia. So, anyway, I came home from work absolutely exhausted, and my heart's beat as I said was off. Sinuses were actively pushing out (dare I say it?), mucous. I awoke after about 3+ hours this evening. My wife had put a little bit of the Brigham Tea into a tea pot and boiled and steeped it. After a while, I drank about three cups of it with honey. Suddenly, I broke out into a sweat and my heart seemed to stabilize and go back to its correct and normal beating pattern. And, the allergies have subsided for the evening as long as I am drinking this herbal tea. I've already made up a bottle of it (33 ounces) to take to work.Thank you so much Janie, for this Brigham Tea! It is much appreciated. And, I do feel better.” – CECIL
"This stuff is amazing! It really does work and it tastes good too! Thanks Janie! - SWEET CEDAR WOMAN
“Thank you, Janie, for doing the harvesting and sending it to me so very fast. The Indians knew what they were doing. Just in time as it is VERY cold, and I have awful asthma and a bad cold, bad wheeze. I have 2 inhalers. Have had bad asthma for years. Have already noticed some improvement. First a nice calming sensation and good taste. Then, what is it doing something wonderful??? Can breathe somewhat out of my nose??? My friend who is trying it felt more relaxed. Helped him to stop coughing from his cold right away. The same cold I have. This is the first thing that I have noticed that has helped even something natural, in such a significant way FAST, and we used VERY LITTLE - just a half a cup and very little of this. Can you imagine a possible improvement over time, with using more twigs and more hot water and perhaps add some honey?” --Geneology Bug
“We boiled up a batch on Monday night and put it in a pre-heated thermos for my SIL to take to work in the morning! When we opened it last night, the last bit was still warm! He has loved having it to drink during the day at work. His chest has been tight for a while now and this is helping. We cooked up another batch last night and filled the thermos again!” – Makrsk11
“I ordered and my order was received promptly. Have been brewing some daily since it has been colder and rainy. A little bit goes a long way. I have made 6 qts from each hand of herb. My sinus issues disappear when I take tea regularly. So reordered the larger 4# box. Thanks for making us aware of the benefits of Brigham Tea. Will be sharing with like-minded care givers.” – KDONAT
"We ordered two pounds of Brigham Tea here a couple of years ago and are just running out now, so made another order today. Four pounds this time, though I'd prefer a box of 20 =) It's helped me through, among other things, a bad case of the flu, a couple recurrences of cellulitis, and the kids love it when they're sick - especially for sore throats. We finished it up over the last few weeks to help us get through eight cases of the Covid. The kids used it with Vit D and C and after 2-3 days of a sore throat and cough were better. It took me three weeks with more pain and a worse cough, but I never developed the serious breathing difficulties I was afraid I'd go through if I got the virus..... Everything from overweight, poor immune system, low oxygen, prior heart and lung issues, and even my blood type) I feel Brigham Tea made a significant difference. Especially since anxiety led to many sleepless nights, so I was dealing with this on very little sleep. On top of it helping me through the illness, as I mentioned it's done multiple times before, it helped me stay hydrated. For some reason, water took on such a disgusting taste that it was all I could do to take a couple swallows at a time. But the Brigham Tea tasted fine, and I could easily drink 1-2 quarts a day. I'm not saying it got me through the Covid all on its own, and it goes without saying that everyone has different needs and reactions, but my family agrees we'd have hated to deal with that sickness without it! ...I'm grateful Discount Preparedness is helping make it available and a little more affordable to us!" -- Allen, son of MAMA BEAR
“….been brewing that and drinking it each day…. I like mine with a bit of honey in it. That's how my mom used to make it for us when we were kids. Brigham tea is all it is cracked up to be!!!!! Added in 2021: "I've been using it in my Covid recovery. Saw the Doc today and he said he has patients whose Covid cases were far milder than mine, who got COVID pneumonia about the same time, and I am much further advanced in my recovery. I've been using... Brigham Tea." -- M. Mangum
"The [Brigham] Tea has been working well; my son, who has nasal allergies, says they are helping him, and my husband has them to a lesser degree, too, and has used it with success. We love this stuff!!" -- C. McDonald
"Thank you so much for the info. I just wanted to let you know I've been drinking it for the last couple months and it has done WONDERS for my asthma. I have yet to find anything that works this well. When I get lax on drinking it, my body can definitely tell. Thank you so so much for sharing this wonderful plant!" -- Lyndsi J
"Brigham Tea helped my mom get over a bad cold quicker. Thank you for suggesting that I include it with my food storage!" -- Sandra T
"I have another potential customer for you for Brigham Tea. I tell members in my ward, and others, about this great herbal tea, and what it does for me, and they too want to try it."-- JAN-DOI
